Lowry Training has been working with Premier Care for approximately the last 3 years in assisting the organisation across its branches to meet some of its training needs. Notably these have been accredited Level 2 qualifications in Infection Control, End of Life and Dementia Awareness.

The accredited courses are created with both the learner’s needs and quality in mind to ensure that the information given in the workbooks is current and relevant to the employees of Premier Care. In addition to this the main outcome of the courses is to ensure that the people that they care for in the community are given the best possible care. Lowry Training has contributed to this by providing qualified and experienced trainers who through the training sessions, can pass on and expand the skills required that employees need to become competent in their daily work role.

Recently Lowry Training has devised a new workbook that includes The Mental Capacity Act 2005 (Mental Health Awareness), Factors affecting Older People, Stroke awareness and Diabetes Awareness. The workbook is called the Combined Care Course because of the number of topics covered. These are all topics that employees could face on a daily basis with their supported individuals and again it is a course that can support and help employees to understand others medical and/or social issues that they may have. The new course will be run in a similar way to other Lowry Training courses that have been successfully done for Premier Care and which are still on –going.

All of the mentioned programmes do carry a recognised qualification from an external Awarding Body which allows an employee to build an impressive portfolio of training which would be highly respected by monitoring and compliance bodies such as the CQC.

All of the feedback from learners regarding these courses has been very positive. Not only has it developed and expanded the knowledge of employees so they can feel more confident in their roles within Premier Care but also they have used the skills gained elsewhere. Many have said that they have close friends or family with some of the conditions covered in the workbooks and the courses have allowed them to help them in a more positive manner especially more so with the contents of Lowry Trainings new workbook.

In conclusion, many Care Providers unfortunately fail their staff by offering poor quality non accredited training sessions that cover a whole topic in a couple of hours either by a video or on line tick box session which doesn’t effectively impact on an employee.

Premier Care however has invested in giving their staff the best possible advantage to carry out their jobs effectively by giving them quality accredited training that they can build upon to ensure that both themselves develop in a professional capacity and that Premier Care can continue as a front runner in offering excellent, professional home care.
